I Cried When the Black Rhinoceros Went Extinct (The Black Rhinoceros is Not Extinct)
Book Design, 2016

This artist’s book was made as a final project for Digital Art Studio. It is an intervention in how we view extinction and conservation today, especially through digital media. The book forces the viewer to confront  the way visual representation alters our conception of extinction: in its violence and pervasiveness, and its delay due to processes of captivity and greenwashing.

The images were culled from Google Images, manually glitched using a text editor, and then resaved as PNGs.

The slipcover was handmade out of lasercut fluorescent green acrylic and the book was printed on an Epson inkjet printer and bound with a Japanese stab stitch.
